After thirty-five years active duty in the United States Navy and a lifetime of interest in literary fiction, he earned an MFA in fiction from the Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers. His short stories, essays, and memoirs have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies including Best American Short Stories (1979).
Dog Watches from Saddle Road Press is his debut story collection.
